If you are in a GP Provider federation / alliance - what’s working and what isnt? and are you interested in sharing ideas/ plans/ knowledge either informally or say at a conference like event?“ “ “I help run 2 not for profit GP provider alliances in Cheshire. Our theory is a lot of federations/alliances have been setup - sometimes badly - sometimes under resourced & funded, under managed and with no clear strategic plan other than everyone else is doing this so should we. Locally we think we have a great plan but are worried we are reinventing the wheel and or missing out on great stuff others have done or lessons others have learnt. While there have been lots of CCG/commissioning events we wonder if there is a role for GP providers to get together and talk/share knowledge/skills etc Thoughts?

Why is the NHS so inconvenient for patients and how much more efficient could it be if did the right thing 1st time. An elderly patient had eye op yesterday - seen in clinic again this am - only given a small supply of the months treatment of eye drops by the hospital - presumably for some budgetary reason - told to come to us for a prescription - had to ring up make an appointment (no problem there we have loads thankfully) come in, sit and wait, now has to go and queue in the chemist downstairs. All of this could have been avoided if they had been given 2 bottles of the drops by the hospital this am instead of one! Net cost to NHS probably £30+ for a £1.80 saving on the hospitals budget.
Very poor story on BBCNW news last night about high cost of locum drs&nurses why do TV media constantly miss the point on NHS news stories?

Call for speakers! I run evening education sessions for GPs in South Cheshire. We regularly get 20-30 in attendance. I’m looking for interesting speakers for future slots. I’m seeking new speakers with interesting talks relevant to GPs. I dont want talks on how good a new drug is - i dont want talks aimed at hospital SPRs. We have had talks on hypnosis, employment law, acupuncture. Unusual/interesting topics please - clinical or non clinical. Get in touch!
