Team of Teams – Books I recommend 5

Team of Teams: New Rules of Engagement for a Complex World by General Stanley McChrystal https://amzn.to/3ecNuu9 is an interesting book that I think has relevance for the NHS particularly in the new world of provider collaboratives and ICPs.

It it he details his thoughts/ideas and experiences on bringing together completely separate units with different backgrounds, ways of working, histories, and old rivalries. He does this in a non-centralised – devolved – way that empowers them but makes them work together. One of his tricks is to lift key staff from one unit and move them to a completely different one. Some lessons the NHS could learn? Perhaps its weakness is fighting a war is a big single outcome incentive and an easily measured and perhaps what the NHS is trying to do is more nebulous.
